NAACLS will conduct a workshop titled, “Standard II: Further Understanding NAACLS’ Standard for Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement of Programs,” on November 6, 2015, from 7:30am-4:00pm in Chicago, IL. The workshop will include a continental breakfast and lunch. The workshop will be presented by Vanessa Jones Johnson, MBA, MA, MT(ASCP), Assistant Professor, Program Coordinator, Louisiana Tech University; MLS Educator, NAACLS Review Committee for Accredited Programs (RCAP) and NAACLS MLS Discipline Lead.

Upon completion of the workshop, and with the opportunity to discuss questions, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the basics of the NAACLS accreditation/approval process utilizing the new, revised Standards.
  • Outline the outcomes-based model for accreditation/approval.
  • Explore the elements of a successful accreditation/approval review.
  • Describe the outcome measure reporting requirements as defined by the new, revised Standards.
  • Apply effective documentation principles and procedures to demonstrate continuous quality improvement.
  • Utilize the Standards Compliance Guide to assist with documentation and compliance with Standard II.
  • Identify tools and strategies to document program assessment, modification and effectiveness.
  • Identify resources available to assist the program director through the accreditation/approval processes.
  • Utilize the Standards Compliance Guide to assist in the development of a Self-Study Report.
  • Utilizing case studies, evaluate, correct and apply procedures to demonstrate continuous quality improvement.
  • Describe strategies to effectively merge new programmatic accreditation/approval requirements with current institutional continuous quality improvement.

NAACLS will conduct a new workshop titled, “Standard II – Understanding NAACLS’ Standard for Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement of Programs,” on February 19, 2015, from 7:00am-12:15pm in Cincinnati, Ohio (in concurrence with the ASCLS Clinical Laboratory Educators’ Conference (CLEC)). The workshop will include a continental breakfast and working lunch.

The workshop will be presented by Vanessa Jones Johnson, MBA, MA, MT(ASCP), Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. She is an MLS Educator on the NAACLS Review Committee for Accredited Programs (RCAP) and a MLS Discipline Lead Person.

Upon completion of the workshop, and with the opportunity to discuss questions, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the basics of NAACLS accreditation/approval.
  • Describe the accreditation/approval processes utilizing the new, revised Standards.
  • Outline the outcomes-based model for accreditation/approval.
  • Describe the outcome measure reporting requirements as defined by the new, revised Standards.
  • Identify additional documentation requirements for outcomes below NAACLS approved benchmarks.
  • Utilize the Standards Compliance Guide to assist with documentation and compliance with Standard II.
  • Identify tools and strategies to document program assessment, modification and effectiveness.
  • Identify resources available to assist the program director through the accreditation/approval processes.

The fee for the workshop is $300/person if you register by 1/5/15. The fee is $325/person if you register between 1/6/15 to 2/5/15).

NAACLS will conduct its workshop titled, “NAACLS – Taking a Step Forward: An Examination of the New Standards and Improved Accreditation/Approval Processes,” on November 7, 2014, from 7:30am-4:00pm in Chicago, IL. The workshop will include a continental breakfast and lunch. The workshop will be presented by DeAnne S. Maxwell, MLS (ASCP)CM, Program Director of the CLS Program at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis, IN/MLS Educator on the NAACLS RCAP, and Edward Rotchford, BA, NAACLS Accreditation Specialist and Volunteer Services Manager.

Upon completion of the workshop, and with the opportunity to discuss questions, the participant should be able to:

  • Identify the process of developing the new Standards
  • Differentiate between the focus of the old Standards and new, revised Standards
  • Make use of the Standards Compliance Guide in conjunction with the new Standards to ensure program effectiveness
  • Utilize the Standards Compliance Guide to assist in development of a Self-Study Report
  • Identify strategies to help document compliance with the Standards
  • List and locate resources available to help the program director through the approval/accreditation processes
  • Identify improvement and changes in the accreditation/approval process, including policy changes and basic navigation of the Accreditation Management System (AMS).

NAACLS held its workshop, “Taking a Step Forward – An Examination of the New Standards and Improved Accreditation/Approval Processes,” for a second time on February 20, 2014, in concurrence with the ASCLS CLEC Meeting in San Jose, California. The workshop was very successful with 125 participants!

This workshop will again be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 7:30am-4:00pm in Philadelphia, PA. This is a full-day workshop that will include a continental breakfast and lunch. The workshop will be presented by DeAnne S. Maxwell, MLS(ASCP)CM, Program Director of the CLS Program at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis, Indiana, and an MLS Educator on the NAACLS Review Committee for Accredited Programs (RCAP), and Edward Rotchford, BA, Accreditation Specialist and Volunteer Services Manager at NAACLS.
