The NAACLS Board of Directors is requesting public comment for two (2) proposed Standards changes.  A summary of these changes can be found here: October 2015 Proposed Standards Change.  All comments must be sent via letter to the NAACLS office, or by email to erotchford@naacls.org, by the end of business on November 30, 2015.

The NAACLS Board of Directors is requesting public comment for two proposed changes to NAACLS’ Standards that primarily affect HT and PBT programs (click here to download) . The proposed changes would 1) require HT programs to culminate in an associate degree (or certificate for students who already hold or otherwise complete the degree), and 2) require PBT program directors that are certified in phlebotomy to hold ASCP-BOC US Certification (unless ASCP-BOC US certified as an MLS/MT/MLT).  All comments must be sent via letter to the NAACLS office, or by email to erotchford@naacls.org by the end of business on June 27th, 2014.

The NAACLS Board of Directors is requesting public comment for a proposed change to 2012 HTL Standard 7A1B and 2012 HTL Standard 7B1B (click here to download) . This change will allow both HTL(ASCP) and HT(ASCP) certifications to be acceptable for program directors and education coordinators of NAACLS Accredited HTL programs, as recommended by the Review Committee for Accredited Programs. This period of public comment has been made available for thirty (30) days. Responses may be directed to Edward Rotchford.

The NAACLS Board has opened a 45 day public comment period on the Draft Standards for Accredited and Approved Programs. The public comment period began on , June 20, 2012, and will conclude August 6, 2012. Comments may be submitted via email to standards@naacls.org.

NAACLS has been working towards revision of the core and unique Standards for Accreditation and Approval for nearly two years. A previous CEO’s Corner (New Directions – Same Values, Volume 106, Fall 2010) outlined the Board of Directors’ vision for the revised Standards that includes a focus on outcomes, fewer requirements for documenting resources and course inputs, and an ambience that encourages innovation. There has been less communication regarding the process by which new Standards are developed, reviewed, and adopted. This column outlines the past and future processes of NAACLS Standards revision.

The 2010 CHEA regulations require that accrediting agencies require of all programs accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) recognized accreditors the publication of outcomes measures in their published materials presented to students and applicants. The regulation is clear that it is the prerogative of the institution as to which outcomes measures are published. This NAACLS Board of Directors is requesting a period of public comment for a proposed Standards change to bring NAACLS into compliance with this CHEA requirement.
