Dear Dr. NAACLS,

In the new Standards that were adopted in October 2012, Standard 2B states the following in regards to an annual submission of outcomes measures:

“If the outcomes measure(s) does/do not meet the stated NAACLS approved benchmarks (see NAACLS website), then an analysis and action plan must be submitted to correct the deficiency(ies).”

I’ve looked everywhere on the website but I can’t seem to find these benchmarks.  Can you tell me where I can find them? And when will we be asked to submit these?

Signed,

Dr. Just Getting Ready

Dear Dr. NAACLS,

I am a new program director, and my program is up for its continuing accreditation review in a few years.  I was curious to know what NAACLS’ role is in the site visit process, as well as what steps are involved in scheduling the site visit.

Signed,

Prepared Program Director

Dear Dr. NAACLS:

Help!  My program is coming up for review, and I have discovered that the agreement with one of my affiliates is out of date!  I am worried about how long it will take to get a new one.

Dear Dr. NAACLS:

I am currently preparing to assemble my Self-Study Report, and remembered there was a recent addition to Standard 7, which states that, “Students must be provided with a clear description of the program and its content and current publications, which must include: N. outcomes measure.”

Do I have to use ASCP-BOC certification exam results as my published outcome measure, and if so, what is the best way to go about this?

Sincerely,

Eagerto Getstarted

Dear Dr. NAACLS:

I recently finished the didactic portion of my program, and the only remaining requirement for completion of the program is the clinical rotations. Although I completed the requirements for my externship six months ago, I have yet to be placed at a clinical site to complete this portion of the program. Since that time I have spoken with everyone involved with the program, without making progress. I really don’t think that I will be assigned to a clinical site in the near future and I think that the program is violating the terms of its accreditation.

 What should I do?

Dear Dr. NAACLS,

I have been a Program Director of a NAACLS Accredited Program for a few years now, but it wasn’t until this past year that my program went through the NAACLS re-accreditation process.  During my site visit, one of our site visitors mentioned that my faculty and I could get more involved with NAACLS by becoming a NAACLS Volunteer.  We are definitely interested in doing so…but we are not sure where to start or what is involved.

Sincerely,

Potential NAACLS Volunteer Extraordinaire

Dear Dr NAACLS:

Our program had some administrative changes a year ago. I included this change on our annual survey last year, but NAACLS still has the old administrative changes in its records. How do I get that changed?

Sincerely,
Confused Program Director

Dear Confused:

It’s Spring. The snow is melting, the flowers are budding and it’s time for the NAACLS annual survey again! Each year, NAACLS sends out the annual survey in conjunction with ASCP to review the demographic profile of the students and graduates and assess various other topics. And each year, there are numerous questions about the survey!
