IN MEMORIUM – David D. Gale, PhD

David D. Gale, PhD, who served as President of the NAACLS Board of Directors from 2003-2005, passed away on July 28, 2013, following a brief illness. He was the Administrative Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University until his retirement in 2011.

Dr. Gale was a member of the NAACLS Board of Directors from 1999-2007. In addition to serving as President, he served the Board as Member-at-Large and Treasurer, and he was Chair of the NAACLS Doctoral Review Committee from 2005-2006.

David Gale held many positions in professional organizations and boards. From 2002-2005, he was President of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG), Past President of the American Society of Human Genetics and on boards of numerous other health related entities. In 2000, David was awarded a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services to direct the Human Genetic Curricula for the Health Professions Project. In 2007, he was named to the American National Standards Institute Advisory Panel.

David was a thoughtful and energetic participant in his endeavors at NAACLS. Because of the many different associations to which he contributed his time and expertise he was able to understand the big picture for health professions and for the accreditation efforts in which many were engaged. Thus, he was able to foster innovation in many areas. His continuing support for the role of NAACLS cannot be underestimated, for he continued to celebrate the work of laboratory professionals in his public communications. He, with his visionary efforts and abiding sense of humor, will be missed by many.
